The best "straw" hats are from Montecristi, Ecuador. A close second, to me, are from Cuenca. Optimo has real, not paper, Milan straw hats that are incredible.

It is very difficult to find fine parabuntal straw today . The weave is not as fine as was 10-15 years ago . This is the main reason we've stopped selling Baku straw .

WEBMay 3, 2008 · If it is old,it could be an issue. But if its that old replacing it is probably best. If the hat is bad enough the best way is to remove the band. I have use PVA to stiffen straw especially paper straw. I have been told a fabric stiffener called Stiffy works but I am pretty sure that is best for a starting from scratch.

WEBAug 13, 2018 · Panamas are usually a finer weave and I think awesome as a "dress straw" although I know a few guys who wear them every day. Palm has been the best for someone, like me, who wears them as a working hat with the horses and cattle, or just wants an "everyday" straw. I've had palm straws that I've worked in for over ten years and they have held up.

WEBDec 28, 2008 · Fall came along and it was put away when the felt hats came out. The next Spring the straw was again too tight. This time I steamed the crap out of it and used a Hat-Jack. I only needed, maybe, one hat size. It worked great, though as I only wear it down at the farm in Virginia, I leave a Hat-Jack in it. Straw will stretch - if done carefully.

I’m glad the sweat is non-leather for comfort and drying. All in all can’t go wrong with these. Less that $100 on ebay, think i paid $35. Winner all around.
